A private Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton, IA. Burial at St. Mary's in North Washington, IA to follow. There will be a rolling visitation from 4:00-7:00pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Conway-Markham Funeral home.

Gertrude “Gertie” Houser was born February 14, 1925 near Bassett, IA. She was the daughter of Calvin and Mabel (Frazee) Boggess. She was a 1943 graduate of Charles City High School.
She was united in marriage to Samuel G. Houser May 29, 1943 at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City, IA. The couple farmed side by side and welcomed 4 children, Karen, Lois, Diane and Rick.
Family has always been her first priority. She cared for her aging parents, siblings and extended family. She played a very active role in the upbringing of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington, Catholic Daughters of America, 4H leader, and sold Princess House products.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Karen (Dennis) Shearman of Ionia, Lois (Jack) Mahan of Colwell, Diane (Darryl) Dietzenbach on New Hampton, 1 son Rick (Donna) Houser of New Hampton, and nephew/foster son Francis Hotchkiss of Salinas, CA. 9 Grandchildren; Denise (Dale) Goodrich of Fredericksburg, Terry (Jan) Bass of Pensacola, FL., Steve (Karla) Bass of Urbandale, IA, Lori (Zach Moorman) Lechtenberg of Fredericksburg, IA, Ryan (Trishia) Dietzenbach of Oelwein, IA., Tyler (Fiancee Caysee Trumblee) Dietzenbach of Clarksville, IA., Steph (Richard) Scott of New Hampton, David Houser of Charles City, IA., and Nicole (Shane Morris) Houser of Charles City, IA; 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Samuel on December 25, 1999, four sisters; Grace Griffin, Lillian Schmitt, Clarinda Thoe, Maebelle Boggess, eight brothers; Melvin, Vern, Jack, Lawrence, Elmer, Leonard, Wendall, and Harlie Boggess, son-in-law Russ Bass of Charles City, one grandson, and two great grandchildren.
