Sergeant Truslow was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy east of the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea on December 12, 1950. He was wounded in the leg and last seen being taken to the battalion aid station. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. Sergeant Truslow was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced that U.S. Army Sergeant Elwood M. Truslow, 20, killed during the Korean War, was accounted for June 7, 2021. Also see National Korean War Veterans Memorial: Find a Grave Memorial 118963550.

His remains have been identified and he will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on April 22.
