Pioneer of Montana died in California

Cornelius Melton, better known as "Neal" Melton, died April 9th at Soquel, Cal., where he had gone one month ago in the hope that a change of climate would prove beneficial to his health. His last affliction was a complication of asthma and heart trouble. A telegram to his family at Butte brought the sad news.

The Melton family is among the pioneer families of Montana. Mr. Melton was born in Knox County, Ill., Feb. 5, 1857, coming to Montana with his father in July, 1864, locating in Gallatin valley, six miles north of Belgrade, where he followed the pursuit of farming, selling out in the fall of 1901, locating in Butte, where he engaged in the dairy business, being owner of the North Star Dairy which he sold last fall on account of failing health.

Surviving him are his wife and large family, all in Butte, his mother, two brothers and four sisters in Gallatin valley and one sister at Thompson Falls, Montana.

The remains will be brought back to Belgrade and interred in the East Gallatin Cemetery.
