Amos & Harriet, with their 5 children, crossed the Great Plains to Montana in 1864 in a covered wagon driven by two teams of horses. Amos secured 2 mining claims in Alder Gulch, near Virginia City, MT. One was successful, the second was not. They returned to the Gallatin Valley the fall of 1866, settling on the West Gallatin River homestead. They lived out the rest of their lives here.
