(AP) -- Mrs. Seymour Hurlburt, 85 first white child born in the gold mining boom town of Virginia City, died at a hospital here yesterday.

She was born Feb. 12, 1865, to Mr. and Mrs. Amos Melton, who had come to Montana the previous year by horse and wagon, via the Bridger cut-off through Bozeman. She was named Virginia Montana Melton.

Soon after her birth, the family moved to Bozeman, where she spent her early life and married William F. Lutton Feb. 16, 1888. The Luttons came here soon after their marriage and filed on a homestead three miles west of town. Mr. Lutton died in 1935.

In 1936 she married Seymour Hurlburt of Thompson Falls. Since his death in 1947, she had lived with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dorris, here.

Other survivors include two stepsons, two stepdaughters, a sister, two granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Methodist church here at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon.
