John Gary Tyson Shumpert, 77, of 907 Mimosa Crescent, West Columbia, died Tuesday. Born in Lexington County, he was a son of the late Jeremiah and Mrs. Mary "Pinky" Shealy Shumpert. He was a a retired textile worker, a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, the September Days at Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Pelion Masonic Lodge. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Willard (Mary) Withrow of West Columbia, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Rick (Jeanelle) Green of South Congaree; sisters, Mrs. James (Esther) Crumpton of West Columbia and Mrs. Tillman (LeVela) Bachman of Red Bank; and a brother, Baron B. Shumpert of Cayce. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, with burial in Southland Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
