Hazel Smith

Sister Hazel Smith, the daughter of James H. Crigger and Martha Hankins Crigger, was born July 5, 1911, at Canada, Kentucky. She deceased this life on Friday, March 1, 1957, making her stay here 45 years, 7 months and 26 days, where she made life a little happier for those of us who knew and loved her.
She became a member of the Dix Fork Church of Old Regular Baptists, the church of Jesus Christ, being baptized at the hands of Elders Harold Edmonds and Charlie Johnson. She remained a faithful member until death took her from our midst.
Sister Hazel married George Smith, the son of Brother James Smith and Buena Morris Smith, both deceased, and to this union were born 2 daughters, Betty Jewell Smith and Sylbia Joyce Smith, both at home.
Left to mourn the loss of this devoted wife, loving mother, sister and friends, besides the husband, George Smith, the two daughters, Betty Jewell and Sylbia Joyce Smith, are six sisters, Mrs. Bill Pauley, Williamson, W. Va.; Mrs. Omar Williamson, Mrs. Casher Blackburn, Mrs. Frank Thornsbury and Mrs. Glen Williamson, all of Canada, Kentucky, and Mrs. Clayton Allen, of Monaville, W. Va.; 2 brothers, Earl Crigger, Canada, Ky., and Cecil Crigger, of Detroit, Michigan; her father, James H. Crigger, and her mother, Sister Martha Crigger, both of Canada, Kentucky, besides a great host of relatives and friends.
But we feel that our loss is her eternal gain. For like the Psalmist David, Sister Hazel said, I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of on His people. She came to the people of the Lord confessing Christ as her personal Savior, was buried with Him in baptism, arose with Him to walk the newness of life. And was able by the help of the Lord to fulfill the next verse of Scripture, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints". Sister Hazel was blessed by the Grace of God on her death bed, to praise her Creator, her Redeemer, her Savior, and her God.
My prayer for George, Betty Jewell, Sylbia, her relatives and all her friends is that they will seek the Lord while He is near and call upon Him while He may be found. What He has done for Sister Hazel, He stands ready and waiting to do for all who call upon Him. May God richly bless and save all of us, is my prayer, in Jesus' name.
