Bill was born in Dubois County, Indiana to John Hembree and his wife Mrs. Margaret "Maggie" Butler (her maiden name is unknown). Bill married first to Sarah Elizabeth Seat in 1853 in Stone County, Missouri and had two children by her before her death in December, 1855. It is this researcher's belief that she probably died in childbirth or shortly after her daughter, Mary Elizabeth, was born on December 17th. Bill married second to Nancy Ann Jones in 1857 in Stone County and they had 10 children together. Bill was enrolled in the Union Cavalry with the G1 Arkansas Cavalry on August 26, 1862. Later he was with the I1 Arkansas Cavalry. Bill was also part of the Stone County, Missouri Home Guards. He was discharged at Van Buren, Arkansas in September, 1865. Bill died in Marmaros, Stone County, at the age of 74.
