Maggie was born in either 1801 or 1805 depending on which census is being viewed, however, I, Cheri Mello, believe it was more likely 1801. (1803 was chosen above as it is in the middle of the date range). Both the 1850 and 1860 censuses states she is born in Ohio. Maggie was married first to a Mr. Butler and had 3 known boys. She married 2nd to John Hembree and had 7 known children. She died during the Civil War years (between 1861-1865), when the family moved away from Stone County due to the fighting. They relocated in Dallas County. 1863 was chosen for the death date simply because it was in the middle of the Civil War years.

She was NOT Margaret Dedmon/Dedman. That Margaret was not born until about 25 years later in Georgia. The year is way off and so is the location. That Margaret was married to Wilson Sutton Butler and that Margaret died in 1887. That was NOT the Civil War years. That Margaret is buried in Blue Eye, by her husband, Wilson. It's completely the wrong Margaret, so please stop grabbing any Margaret and trying to make her fit. You're putting a square peg into a round hole.

As for being Margaret Bledsoe, prove it. Primary source documentation is preferred. If it's secondary documentation, such as a death certificate from a son where the informant was his 2nd, much younger, wife, then find me lots and lots of secondary source documentation that proves she was a Bledsoe. Or test a Bledsoe from that area and prove it with DNA. Your choice.

If you are a descendant of Maggie through either husband, we need your DNA in order to help figure out her birth family and maiden name. Please contact Cheri below or at kinklector at gmail dot com.
