A member and deacon of Whitney Free Will Baptist Church; owner and operator of Dupre Gilbert's Back-Hoe Service.
Survivors include brothers, Clyde C "Jake" Gilbert (1921–1998)and James Thomas Gilbert (1933-2013); sisters, Marjorie Gilbert Wilson (1915–2000), Selina Gilbert Arthur (1917–1998), Myrtle Gilbert Abbott (1919–1999), Correll Ruby Gilbert Crenshaw (1926–2011), Mary Frances Gilbert Phelps (1928–1989), and Ophelia Gilbert Gilbert Wilson (1929–2008).
Also predeceased by siblings, George Conrad Gilbert (1913–1950), Lillian Gilbert Arthur (1918–1968), and Lamar L Gilbert (1924–1959).
Visitation was held from 7:00 - 8:30 pm, Saturday, January 21, 1989, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
Services were held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 22, 1989, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel by Rev. James Childers, Rev. Michael Hamlet, and Rev. Monroe Jenkins; burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
