Lela Mae Shoup, daughter of Daniel and Rachel (Garber) Landes, was born on May 6, 1929, in Montgomery County, Ohio. She peacefully passed away in her home on October 28, 2018 at the age of 89 years and 5 ½ months. Mother was baptized on December 5, 1948 into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church in the Wolf Creek District. She was united with Marvin Leroy Shoup in holy matrimony on November 24, 1949. Daddy and Mother made their home on his great-grandfather’s farm, sharing the joys and sorrows of life for 63 years. After Daddy’s death on January 30, 2013, she continued to live on the family farm for a total of 69 years.

This union was blessed with three children. Daddy and Mother were called into the ministry at the Donnels Creek District on April 14, 1956. She faithfully labored by his side, and continued to serve in the church until her passing.

Mother was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and his parents, Carl and Arthena Shoup; sisters Bernice Boone and Delma Swearingen; granddaughter Janell Flora; brothers-in-law, Norman Shoup and Robert Boone; and sister-in-law, Ruth Landes. She holds a special place in the hearts of those who loved her.

Surviving are her three children, Marva and Gayle Brubaker, Melvin and Charlotte, and Cheryl and Duane Flora; grandchildren Melanie (Simeon) Shankster, Bethany (Ben) Yost, Tamara (Marcus) Shively, Kristen Brubaker, Jerilyn (Nick) Filbrun, Brenton (Kristin) Shoup, Melinda (Kendall) Wray, Craig (Tonya) Flora, Brian (Brooke) Flora, Lynette Flora; 22 great-grand children; brothers, Dennis Landes and Alva (Pauline) Landes; brother-in-law, Richard Swearingen; and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Shoup and Elizabeth Boone; along with cherished cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-5 PM and 6-8 PM in the Donnels Creek Old German Baptist Brethren Church, 3565 Hampton Rd., Springfield, Ohio. The funeral service to honor Lela will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM in the church. Burial will follow in Myers Cemetery.

We have a blessed hope and anticipate the Lord’s return. “Even so, come Lord Jesus!”
