Mrs. Henry (Flora) Cassens, 79, of Akron, died Tuesday (Dec. 22, 1981) in the Akron hospital of a brief illness.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 24 in St. John's Lutheran church, rural Akron. The Rev. Robert Kruempel officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of the Schroeder funeral home. A prayer service was held at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Leslie Klemme, Stanley Jacobs, William Faulkner, Elmer Borchers, Herb Frerichs, James Utesch, and Wayne Sheveland.

Organist was Mrs. Wm. Van Buskirk, with the congregation singing "Rock Of Ages, "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "What A Friend".

Mrs. Cassens, the former Flora Haage was born Sept. 13, 1902 at Akron. She married Henry Cassens in 1921. They farmed in the Akron area for many years. Mr. Cassens died in 1948. She had been a resident of the Akron nursing home for two years.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ron (Wilma) Kulvik and Mrs. Darlene Plueger, both of Akron and Mrs. Ernest (Irene) Lockwood of Mitchell, S.D.; two sisters, Hannah Borchers of Akron and Kristina Lubben of Le Mars; one brother, Gerd of Le Mars; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; and four brothers.
