Mrs. Fred Haage Early Settler Taken By Death
Wife Of Prominent Farmer Of Preston Township, Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. Haage, wife of Fred Haage, well known and prominent farmer of Preston township died at the family home Thursday, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Haage suffered from heart trouble the past two years and her condition became critical a few months ago.
Johanna Sophia, (Nannen) was born at Schortensm in the Grand Duchy, of Oldenburg, Germany, April 20, 1873, when a girl of ten years old she came with her parents to America. On arrival in this country they came directly to Le Mars and engaged in farming in Preston township, where she lived all her life.
She was united in marriage with Fred Haage, March 18, 1892, the ceremony taking place in Christ church, Grant township. Eleven children were born to their union. Two daughters preceded her in death. She leaves her husband and nine children who are John Haage, Johnson township; Henry Haage, Preston; Herman Haage, Johnson; Mrs Anna Meyers and Mrs. Flora Cassens, of Akron; Mrs. Will Lubben, Grant township; Fred of Johnson township; Gerd and Mrs. Henry Borchers, of Preston.
The funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 from home and at 2 o'clock in St. Johns's Lutheran church in Preston township, Rev. Theodore Meyer officiating, and interment made in the Preston township cemetery. Her five sons and a son-in-law will be pallbearers.
Mrs. Haage was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was a fine Christian woman, a devout member of the Lutheran church and its kindred societies and enjoyed the respect of all who knew her.
