The Coon Rapids community this week experienced a gunshot tragedy.

Larry Chase, 7-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Chase, was shot accidentally and killed instantly by a bullet from a 22-caliber rifle.

The accident occurred about 5:30 Monday afternoon at the Chase home on Highway 141 just east of the river bridge.

According to reports Mr. and Mrs. Chase, Larry, and his older brother, Ben Jr., a high school sophomore, were in the yard when they heard some ducks going over. Ben hurried into the house to get his rifle and as he came out it accidentally discharged, the bullet striking Larry in the side.

Dr. John Morrison of Carroll, Carroll county coroner, was called and as a verdict of accidental death was called no inquest was held.

Funeral services were held at the Coder-Anderson Funeral Home yesterday afternoon with the Rev. Ray Hays, pastor of the Free Methodist church, officiating.
