Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday), February 19, 1987, at the First Christian Church for Iris A. Chase, 75, who died Sunday, February 15 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.
The Rev. Jerry Robertson of the United Methodist Church of Coon Rapids will officiate. Lois Shirbroun will serve as organist.
Burial will be in the Coon Rapids Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Richard. Bancroft, David Bancroft, Tom Vaughan, Doug Vaughan, William Obermeier and James Obermeier.
Iris, daughter of William B. and Lydia Holtree Spencer, was born April 19, 1911 at Coon Rapids, Iowa. She attended Coon Rapids schools through the eighth grade. Before her marriage Iris worked for Armour's Produce in Coon Rapids.
On July 3,1930, she was united in marriage with Benjamin Willard Chase at Guthrie Center. They continued to live in Coon Rapid. At various times Iris worked for Armour's Produce and Garst & Thomas Seed Corn Company. Iris spent the majority of her time caring for her family and tending her flowers.
Benjamin died on November 4, 1958 and Iris continued to live in Coon Rapids. In 1975 she moved to Bayard where she lived until July 2, 1986 when she entered Thomas Rest Haven. Iris died on February 15, 1987, at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa, at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 27 days.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter; Donna Mae Chase, in infancy; a son, Larry Donald Chase, as a boy; a son-in-law, Richard Vaughan; four sisters: Goldie Evans, Bertha Hicock, Aelsie Spencer, and five brothers, Guy, Harry, William "Jiggs", Elzie and Eddie Spencer.
Iris is survived by the following: Mrs. Richard (Mildred) Bancroft, Coon Rapids; Mrs. Robert (Maxine) Jandt, Tustin, Ca.; Ben Chase, Dalzell, S.C.; Mrs. LeRoy (Jean) Obermeier, Audubon; Gary Chase, Garden Grove, Ca.; Sandra Vaughan, Exira; Rosalie Swindell, Amarillo, Tx.; Charles Chase, Estherville; and Mrs. Charles (Mary Jane) Hance, Creston; 26 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two nephews, Francis and Gordon Hickok, who were raised by Iris' parents; six step-children, John Chase, Parshall, N.D., Mrs. Bob (Adebele) Carmen, Jefferson; Mrs. Wilson (Betty) Kumba, Bethell, WA, Susan Willard, Spirit Lake, Sally M. Brown, Pasadena, CA and Clara Davis of Alaska, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
