Peter (Peder) was my great grandfather. I really don't know much about him. In doing research I learned that he was the town's postman and that he died of TB. He was born in Norway and came to America 6 months before the rest of his family to get settled in. He came through Canada with his brother. How they ended up in Iowa is anyone's guess. There was/is a large Norwegian population in this part of the state. He started the first Sunday school at the Clermont Lutheran Church they attended. Peder was also the town's postman; he would take his handbuilt cart to the train station 4 times a day to pick up the mail. He is best remembered for singing Norwegian hymns as he went through town.
