Peter [sic] Nelson was the son of Nils Olsen Lynne and Kjersti Paulsdatter Lynne. He came to America in 1872 through Canada and settled in Marion Township Clayton County, Iowa. He was married to Randi Pedersdatter.

--------------------

Peter (Peder) was my great grandfather. I really don't know much about him. In doing research I learned that he was the town's postman and that he died of TB. He was born in Norway and came to America 6 months before the rest of his family to get settled in. He came through Canada with his brother. How they ended up in Iowa is anyone's guess. There was/is a large Norwegian population in this part of the state. He started the first Sunday school at the Clermont Lutheran Church they attended. Peder was also the town's postman; he would take his handbuilt cart to the train station 4 times a day to pick up the mail. He is best remembered for singing Norwegian hymns as he went through town.
