She was my great grandmother. Randi was born in Norway and came to American 6 months after her husband on a ship with her children (2). She told people that the storms were so bad while on board she thought they would surely die. She remarked how frightened she was. She had several more children after they arrived and settled in Clermont, Iowa. Three of her children died from the flu and she came home from their funeral to find another had died. Bless grandma Randi as she is reunited with all her children. The Nelson walked every Sunday morning; it was 6 miles to church. Sometimes they had a wagon but mostly they walked. It was a very hilly terrain and in the winter it was brutal. She was a very happy person and worked very hard. I have heard she had a wonderful laugh. She was very loved by her children and grandchildren.
