John Henry, husband of Rachel McMillan, was a son of Matthew and Jennie Long Henry, of County Londonderry, Ireland. He had three siblings, Rachel Henry (who married another John Henry, a cousin), Betty, and Sally. Sister Rachel Henry and her husband John Henry emmigrated to the United States, settled in Ohio, and had a family of nine children. When Rachel Henry Henry died, in Ohio, her widower married again, a woman named McNutt, and they had additional children. Sister Betty married Johnnie Wilson (probably a relative of Ann Henry Wilson's husband); number of children, if any, is unknown. Sister Sally married a man named John Austin; this couple had no children.

John Henry, son of Matthew and Jennie Long Henry, married Rachel in 1816. They had 12 children, 11 of whom emmigrated to the US. His exact birth date is unknown. It has been calculated from the notation (Henry Family of Flower Hill, Ireland) that he was 20 years older than his wife, who was "in her twenties" when they were married. John and Rachel McMillan Henry remained in Ireland all their lives, as did their son William. There is a notation in "Henry Family. . ." that the family is said to have originated in Ayr, Scotland.
