Camp Point, Ill. April 15 Dr. Samuel Henry; one of the oldest, citizens of this place, and one of the most widely known and highly esteemed man in the entire community, died at his home here yesterday afternoon about 4 o'clock. His death followed an illness of some time and was not unexpected. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence, conducted by Rev. Parker of the Presbyterian church, of which denomination Dr. Henry had been a member, since he was 17 years of age. Interment In Evergreen cemetery.
Dr. Henry was a physician of the old school, who gave of his knowledge and skill to alleviate suffering when the work was arduous and even dangerous. He traveled about the country-side at all hours of day and night when there were no roads worth the name and few, if any bridges over the streams. And fees were not large nor plentiful and often times not even expected. He was born January 13, 1828, in London Derry county, Ireland and landed at New York. May 10, 1848. He graduated from the New York Medical college March 3, 1853, and came to Illinois to take up the practice of his profession, which he continued during all the remainder of the active years of his long life. He was 88 years of age and practiced until perhaps a year ago, or there a bouts. On May 10, 1855, Dr.. Henry, was married to Miss Harriet Kay. She died February 27, 1908. Seven children were born to them, six of whom survive: Dr. W. O. Henry and B. C. Henry of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Mary, Anderson of Camp Point, Mrs. Fannie Bates and Mrs. Anna McFarland of Atlantic, Iowa, and Mrs. Harriet Whiting of Glendale, Cal.
