Death Of Irving Baldwin, Sr. ~ Was Born in Town of Stanford ~ Lived in Colorado Several Years
Irving Baldwin, Sr., died early Friday morning after an illness of fifteen years. While he has not been confined to his bed he has been in ill health during this time. He began to fail a few years ago and grew rapidly worse until death relieved him.
He was born in the town of Stanford; Dutchess County, September 8, 1866, and at the age of 19 he associated himself as salesman with the well known clothing house of Brooks Brothers, Broadway and 22nd Street, New York, by whom he was held in high esteem. He remained with them for thirteen years and until on the advice of his physicians he removed with his family to Colorado in 1898 in the hope of regaining health, locating at Hygiene where he was assistant post-master for a number of years.
Mr. Baldwin returned from Colorado in 1905 and has resided in Pougnkeepsie ever since. He was united in holy wedlock with Abby A. March in 1889 in New York City, where he lived for several years.
October 12, 1907, he was called upon to part with his companion who had shared life's toils and sorrow with him for eighteen years and for five years he has gone on alone waiting for the end of which he talked to his sons, Saying, "My motto is, be cheerful and keep up courage. I know it's coming and I am not afraid." He leaves to mourn his death two sons, Leon C. and Irving Jr., his mother, Julia F. Tinney of Vine Valley, New York, three sisters, Mrs. Grace Van Hoesen of Vine Valley, New York; Mrs. John M. Janes and Mrs. S. P. Mambert of Poughkeepsle, New York, and four brothers, C. H. Baldwin, of Rushville, New York; William of Brooklyn and J. J. Baldwin and Llewellyn both of Pougbkeepsie.
Mr. Baldwin was loved by those who knew him and his sweet disposition and kind words for everyone made him many friends.
His funeral will be held from the residence of his brother-in-law, J. M. Janes at 63 South Hamilton Street, Monday at 2:30 p. m.
His obituary does not state his burial place but the fact that he died in Poughkeepsie and his parents and many of his siblings and his wife are buried here this the likely place.
There may not be a marker at his resting place.
