Sewell Jacob Finley, age 84, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at SECU Hospice House of Rutherford County.

Mr. Finley was born June 14, 1933 in McDowell County, North Carolina to the late Robert and Hessie Hollifield Finley.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Condrey and Irene Davis; and four brothers, Albert Finley, Paul Finley, Earl Finley and Roy Finley.

A member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Marion for 68 years, Sewell had served 24 years as Trustee and was very active in the church. He enjoyed participating in the hamburger sales.

Mr. Finley was fond of the outdoors and loved to hunt, fish and gardening, he often would share his vegetables with his neighbors and friends.

Left behind to cherish Mr. Finley’s memories are his wife of 65 years, Jackie Finley; one son, Dennis Finley (Elaine) of Nebo; one daughter, Linda McKinney of Nebo; two sisters, Inez Kirkpatrick (Eddie) and Edith Elliott (Herman), both of Nebo; two granddaughters, Kelly Orne (Chad) of St. Johnsbury, Vermont and Draia Garavito (Eder) of Durham, North Carolina.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at First Free Will Baptist Church of Marion.

A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Finley’s life will follow at 2:00 PM at the church with Rev. Brian Bird, Rev Justin Deaton and Chaplain Cy Miller officiating.

Burial will follow the service at Ballew Cemetery.
