Son of Catherine Elizabeth (Kate) Field and Daniel Gross Brian.

After the divorce of his parents, Kate Field Liddiard Fisher Brian and Daniel Gross Brian, and some time following the death of his mother around 1877, Edward was raised by Dr. Harvey Hullinger.

Services Held On Monday For Ed. Brian
  Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Swain Funeral Home for Ed Brian, 75, who died Saturday at 9 p.m. at his residence near Seth Perry's following an illness of five years.
  Eldon Billings offered the invocation, and Wm. H. Siddoway told the life history of the deceased.
  Carol Rae Walker sang a solo, "Oh My Father", Mae Jorgensen sang "In The Garden", and E. W. Evans offered the benediction. Jessie Mecham accompanied the musical numbers, and Wallace Winder of the Second Ward Bishopric conducted the services.
  Pallbearers were Eldon Billings, Leon Galley, Seth Perry, Brownie Hatch, Frank McCarrell and Lynn Pack. Burial was in the the Vernal Memorial Park with E. J. Winder dedicating the grave.
  Mr. Brian, a life-long resident of Utah, was born January 8th, 1870, in Second Ward at Salt Lake City, a son of Daniel G. and Kate Field Liddiard Brian.
  At the age of seven he was adopted by Dr. H. C. Hullinger, and on December 8, 1882, left Little Cottonwood, where he made his home with the Hullingers and came with them to the Ashley Valley.
  After coming to the Ashley Valley they lived on Ashley Creek between Vernal and Jensen. Mr. Brian took care of Dr. Hullinger's cattle and also worked with sheep. He also helped make brick for many of the business buildings of Vernal.
  He was a "caller" for most of the early dances. He was a member of the first band ever organized here, directed by Geo. A. Adams. His father was a professional dancer.
  In 1900 he married Kate McCarrell, and was later married to Jane Galley.
  Mr. Brian helped plot the Vernal Cemetery, and at one time knew every grave there. He has dug, or supervised the digging of, more graves than any other person at this cemetery.
  Bedfast for the past five years, Mr. Brian has been cared for by his wife, and assisted greatly by Sarah Hullinger Perry and Seth Perry.
  Surviving are his widow, a sister, Mrs. Roe Kinghorn of Provo, and a son, Arthur E. Brian, now in France with the armed forces.
