Dorathye Evans Spence, 88, of Dry Fork, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018, at the Danville Regional Medical Center. Born on November 24, 1929, in Pedlar Mills, Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey Bascomb Evans and the late Alice Maddox Evans. Dorathye retired from the public school system after 41 years of service. She taught in Rockbridge County, Bedford County, Lynchburg City, and Halifax County where she retired. Dorathye enjoyed animals and reading, especially British literature. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Dorathye is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Godfrey and husband, Garry; granddaughter, Jordan Godfrey; brother, Marvin Evans and wife, Marion; and sister, Betty Green. There will be no formal visitation but friends may visit the family at Dorathye's granddaughter, Jordan Godfrey's residence, on Sunday, January 14, 2018, from 1 to 4 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018, at Virginia Memorial Park, 11490 Forest Rd., Forest, VA 24551. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Danville Humane Society, 996 S. Boston Rd., Danville, VA 24540. Whitten Timberlake Chapel is assisting the Spence family (239-0331).
