Joseph Abney
April 03, 1916 - December 24, 2017 Joseph Lee Abney, 101, of Disputanta, passed away December 24, 2017 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Joe was born on April 3, 1916 in the Brush Creek community of Rockcastle County to the late John Mitchell and Anna Mae Robinson Abney. He was a lifelong farmer and a self-employed construction worker. In his later years, he spent many hours on his front porch with his dogs waving at people who passed and enjoying the scenery of the Clear Creek community.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Linville Abney; four brothers: Richard “Dick” Abney, Ralph Abney, Hubert Abney, and Howard Abney; one sister, Geneva Jones; one grandson, Scott Henderson; and one great-granddaughter, Keisha Nicole Thomas.

Joe is survived by: two daughters, Betty A. (David) Henderson and Joyce L. Ballard; four grandchildren: Stacy Henderson Gentry, Jerry Lee Thomas, Rita Jo Thomas Lamb, and Kirk Thomas; eight great grandchildren: Kortney Thomas, Joe Thomas, Arlee Thomas, Jesseca Thomas, Neal Henderson, Landon Gentry, Lucas Gentry, and Levi Gentry; one sister, Edna Cate; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Funeral services for Joseph Lee Abney will be held at Lakes Funeral Home on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Chris Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis-Witt Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 6:00 until 9:00 at the funeral home. Those serving as pallbearers will be: Billy Linville, Greg Abney, James Cope, Junior King, Doug Abney, and Joe Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Linville and Tim Abney, George Clark, and Brandon Thomas.
