Being born in Anderson County, South Carolina, Joseph Newton Griffin was the son of the late Isaac and Margaret Ellison Griffin and was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Adcock Griffin who died in 1925. Among his survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Louise Earline Rymer of 9 Cooper Street, Brandon and Mrs. Blanche Beddingfield from Atlanta, Georgia; three sisters, Mrs. Lelia Hinton, Mrs. Alma Allison and Mrs. Janie Styles all from Greenville; three brothers, Seaborn Griffin from Pickens, Fate G. Griffin from Alabama and Ben F. Griffin from Atlanta, Georgia. Services were held at George's Creek Baptist Church with internment in church cemetery.
