James Score Jr. was 3 years old at the time of his death from diphtheria. His 1 1/2 year old younger sister Katie (Catherine) contracted diphtheria shortly after him to the same end. They were living with parents James and Mary Ann (Geraghty) Score at 112 West Houston.
James Jr. and Catherine were buried in Calvary on the same day, August 13, 1895. They were buried with their maternal grandparents in First Calvary, Section 8, Range 34, Plot DD, Grave 7.
After their tragic loss, James and Mary Ann moved to nearby 57 MacDougal. It was there my grandmother Mae Score was born less than one-year later in July 1896.
James Jr.'s mother, Mary Ann (Geraghty) Score, erected the gravestone shortly after her husband's death in 1933. In memory of their loss, she engraved the names:
