Dad was born on Sunday, July 17 1927 to John Vinton & Eva Agnes Bender Knode in Sharpsburg, Maryland. He was the baby of the family & as most babies, he worn his older siblings hand-me-downs which included dresses. His parents moved to Hagerstown in 1929 & dad went to schools in the south end of town. He enlisted in WWII & after being discharged he enlisted in the Korean War, where he was shot 3 times. He was awarded the purple heart as well as many other medals. He never talked about either war to his family, but quite often we were awoken in the night to sounds of him still fighting overseas. He married in 1957 & remained married for 60 years until his death. He fathered 4 children, one of which passed before him in 2011. His daughter Candee passed away from colorectal cancer Mar 26 2011. He left behind his loving wife of 60 years, 3 children & their spouses & a son-in-law, seven grandchildren & four great grandchildren whom loved him dearly. He was the last of his generation. His siblings that passed before him were William, Mildred, Anna, Martha, Dorothy, Agnes, Vinton, Ellis, Roland, Walter & Robert. He was the best dad a person could have & he lived for his family. We had so much fun together & shared many memories that will never be forgotten. His favorite holiday was Christmas & we as a family w/his siblings shared great times together. He lived his life right to the end. He had a military funeral & is buried in Rest Haven Cemetery.
