Clyde Maurice Schauer was born on Tuesday, August 31, 1926, in Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania. His parents were Edward Thaddeus Schauer (Sunday, May 19, 1895 - Saturday, August 1, 1942) and Edith Marie Clark Schauer (Monday, May 16, 1898 - Sunday, February 2, 1992). His parents were married on Tuesday, June 22, 1915, in Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania. Clyde was the sixth born of their eight children and was the only child to reach ninety years of age.

Clyde attended Wilson Junior High School in Erie, Pennsylvania and from 1941-1943 attended Erie's Academy High School. At the time Clyde completed his 1942 Draft Registration Card in 1944 at the age of eighteen he was working on a farm owned by Everett May in New Springfield, Mahoning County, Ohio.

Clyde was in the Air Force when he was about twenty-one for about six months. He got pneumonia and was hospitalized for three weeks. They found ulcers and discharged him. He returned to Erie, got a job as a milkman, and lived with his mother at 3913 Stanton Street.

In 1949 at the age of twenty-two he married Betty Russ (Friday, August 3, 1923 - Saturday, February 12, 2000) in Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania. They met at Wesleyville's Russ Diner, just east of Erie, Pennsylvania in Erie County on Buffalo Road, U.S. Rt. 20. They had one son, Clyde Maurice "Gary" Schauer (Sunday, May 28, 1950 - Monday, November 17, 2008). They also raised a daughter from Betty's first marriage, Terri Ann Gleisner Schauer (Friday, April 6, 1945 - living in 2017 in Tucson, AZ). Teri was adopted by Clyde, and became her father's devoted caregiver during his later years.

In the early 1950's Clyde and Betty relocated to California where he worked in the neon sign business. City Directories identify him as an electrician for the SD Neon Sign Company from 1954 to 1959 in San Diego. In 1964 the San Diego City Directory lists Clyde as a sign electrician for the Aztec Sign Company. He moved to employment as an electrician with California Neon Products (now CNP Signs & Graphics) according to these City Directories: 1966 San Diego, 1969 San Jose, 1970 San Diego (superintendent), 1971 San Jose (superintendent), and 1974 San Diego.

In 1994 Clyde resided in Chandler, Mariposa, Arizona. He and Betty moved to Ajo, Pima County, Arizona until her passing in 2000. He continued to live there until recent years when he relocated to Tucson, Pima County, Arizona.

After a lingering illness and hospice services Clyde passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. Of all of the many hundreds of men and women who have ever lived in the three Schauer branches as the direct descendants (same blood line) of Philipp Jacob Schauer (1797-1862), Clyde is the only individual to reach the age of ninety years of age.
