Homer Raymond Schauer, 85, peacefully passed away Monday. December 28, 2009. He had been hospitalized for a couple of weeks with pneumonia. He was ready to go home to be with Jesus. Homer was born Wednesday, July 9, 1924, in Erie, PA to Edward Thaddeus and Edith Marie (Clark) Schauer.

Born blind, he went to The School for the Blind in Pittsburgh, PA, where he learned to play the trombone, piano and organ. While attending Anderson College from 1945 to 1950, he sang in the choir and a college quartet. He also sang for a time with the Christian Brotherhood (Church of God) Quartet that included Doug Oldham.

During his college years, Homer met, dated and eventually married Georgetta Kinney on Saturday, November 23, 1949 in Indiana. After college he was a song evangelist, a pastor, worked in a piano factory, and learned to tune pianos, which he did throughout his life. His singing was recorded on albums, including one with some of his family members.

He and his family moved to California in 1959, joining some of his brothers and sister. A majority of his life was dedicated to reaching people for Christ. As an ordained Church of God minister Homer was a pastor in several locations. His responsibilities included head pastor, associate pastor, music minister and telephone and visitation minister. His longest term pastorate was at Skyline Wesleyan Church near La Mesa, CA.

After retirement Homer and Georgetta moved to Prescott Valley, AZ, near their daughter Rita and her family. Several years later, they chose to go to the Scripps Home in Altadena, CA, where they continued ministering at this residential facility, having worship services and providing music. Homer's life mate and ministry partner, Georgetta, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2006. Homer had many interests besides music,

He liked the challenge of games such as dominoes and Uno. He was a life-long Pittsburgh Pirates fan and listened to their games through his computer. He had an extremely good sense of direction and a good sense of humor. Homer was active on his computer and emailed many; one niece has quipped she hopes the Internet reaches heaven because Homer liked sending emails so much! He also enjoyed writing short stories during his later years.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at Sweetwater Community Church, 5305 Sweetwater Road, Bonita, CA with Bob Lenz officiating.
