HONOR LEADER - A Girl Scout leader for 40 years, Marcella Wentzel was honored by Her former scouts at a picnic Saturday at McAllister Park in Mapleview. Among the presentations made was a 200-page keepsake album, which event organizer Joy Hall Louters presented to Wentzel during the program.
Honor Scout leader for 40 years service
"Sally's girls" honored the Scout leader who led and advised them over a 40-year period.
Sally is Marcella Wentzel and about 40 of her former Girl Scouts returned this weekend to honor her.
Organized by Joy Hall Louters, former Scouts and their families gathered in McAllister Park Saturday for a picnic lunch and to share their memories. Later that evening they gathered at Wentzel's home for a Girl Scout "campfire."
The former Scouts, all members of Wentzel's Mapleview Troop No. 1. presented their leader with keep-sake gifts including a 200-page album in which to keep letters sent by the Scouts she's led over the years, as well as materials from her own scrapbook and pictures from Saturday's event.
While the bigger share of former Scouts came from a 100-mile radius, they also came from Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota and as far away as Connecticut.
Their sentiments were summarized by Joy Hall Louters, who wrote a poem that presented to Wentzel on a keepsake plaque. Entitled "Because of You" the poem concludes:
"Because of you we have friendship sent from the heavens above.
Because of you, we've all been blessed with the priceless gift of love."
