AUSTIN -- The funeral for Richard Lane Baxter will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

Mr. Baxter, 72, of Austin, a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Sunday (Sept. 12, 1999) at his home.
Born July 28, 1927, in Austin, he grew up on the family homestead north of Austin, attended Austin High School and served in the Army for four years. On Feb. 19, 1949, he married Marion Bustad at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Mr. Baxter worked at Hormel for 43 years. He took carpentry courses at Austin Vocational School for three years, built two of his own homes and helped with his children's homes. During retirement he did home repairs for family and friends and also worked for Wallace Bustad Excavating and Crane Service. He was a member of Union Local P-9 and St. Olaf Lutheran Church, and enjoyed woodworking, camping, square dancing and card club.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Terrance of Minneapolis; two daughters, Colette (Mrs. James) Grothe of River Falls, Wis., and Jolee (Mrs. Rick) Siedschlog of Ellsworth, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Floyd of Austin. Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
