Nov. 16, 1932 - Jan. 21, 2017
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jim, returned to his heavenly home at age 84, in Washington, Utah after a brief courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of
Ianthius Winford Barlow
and Cleo Olson Barlow.
Jim was the sixth child of thirteen.
Jim married his high school sweetheart, Geraldine "Jerry" Ruth Sellers on June 10, 1950 when he was 17 and Jerry was 15 years old.
They have been by each others side ever since, recently celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary.
They were blessed with 7 children:
James Glade (Lana) Barlow,
Gary Chris (Mic) Barlow,
Joyce Ann (Clayne) Robinson,
Jennifer (Kelly) Faddis,
Jacqueline (Cleve) Smith,
Jason Robert (Tara) Barlow
and Justin S (Mandy) Barlow.
Jim worked hard throughout his life.
He became a plumber by trade and then a mechanical estimator.
He moved his family to St. Petersburg, Florida and was the Regional Director for several health spas throughout Florida. Later he owned several women's health clubs.
Jim moved with his family back to Utah in 1976 and returned to the trade he loved, founding J&S Mechanical Contractors, Inc.
J&S Mechanical is now one of the largest mechanical contractors in Utah.
Jim was a big fan of University of Utah sports.
He attended every home game for basketball and football for many years.
He loved to golf.
In the summers, he golfed at Hidden Valley Country Club and spent 19 winters in Palm Desert, California, enjoying the sun, golf, great friends and his daily 5 mile walks.
Jim was an avid reader, a great cook and made the best steaks, salmon and caramel malts.
He was a great fisherman and loved to deep sea fish off the coast of Alaska.
At age 33, Jim was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and later sealed for time and eternity to Jerry and his children in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He was a faithful member and served in many church callings throughout his life.
He served many years in the Jordan River Temple.
He had a valiant testimony of the restored gospel and of Jesus Christ.
He bore that witness each time we gathered as an extended family.
Jim will always be known for his strong work ethic, positive thinking, wonderful sense of humor, his quick wit and impeccable memory.
Jim was devoted to his family and friends with a spirit of charity and kindness.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and love him!
He is survived by his wife, 7 children, 31 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. Preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
