Afton Barlow Olschewski passed away on February 12, 2015 while surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Born October 2, 1927, she was the third child of Ianthius W. Barlow and Cleo Olson and was sister to thirty-eight siblings.

She grew up in extreme poverty during the Great Depression and always spoke with gratitude for how blessed she had been in life.

She married Herbert Guenther Olschewski on August 7, 1945 after he returned from Europe at the end of World War II.

She lived most of her life in Salt Lake City, where she and Herbert raised eight children. They remained married and devoted to one another for sixty-nine years.

She believed firmly in the gospel of Jesus Christ and tried to live it well unto her last breath.

She found great joy in caring for her home and family and had a keen eye for detail, appreciating the small things in life.

She believed in hard work, good manners, and being grateful. She was a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert, and seven of their eight children, including Eileen (Henry) Naylor, Steven Olschewski, David Olschewski, Jonathan Olschewski, Dianne (John) Timpson, Teressa (Norman) Millsap, and Ianthius (Debbie Wayman) Olschewski. She leaves behind a large and extended family, including forty-four grandchildren, eighty-three great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Her parents, many siblings, and her son, Robert Olschewski, precede her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 12:00 p.m. in the Taylorsville Utah North Stake Center, 1250 West Atherton Drive, where friends and family may call on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00-11:30 a.m.
