Mrs. Sarah Catherine Lee Black, age 88, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017, after a prolonged illness.

The native of Bulloch County was the daughter of the late Robert Clifton and Leona Johns.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Allen H. Lee; and her second husband, Barney G. Black. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Evelyn DeWitte of Garden City, Ga.; Mary Williams of Cordele, Ga.; Hattie Cleonice Clifton of Savannah and Robert Lee Clifton, Jr. of Savannah.

Surviving are two sisters, Jackie Hagin of Brooklet, Ga., and Linda Keller of Augusta, Ga.; and a brother, Carrol Clifton, Sr. of Savannah, Ga. Also surviving are one daughter, Nadine McIver of Cumming, Ga.; and two sons, Linton Lee and Allen Lee, Jr. of Jackson, S.C.; and her stepdaughter, Jan Tankersley of Brooklet; and her stepson, Randy Black of Florida. She is further survived by five grandchildren, Laura Lee Iossi, Hope Beauford, Bettina Lee, Hagan Lee and Danna Lee.

Additionally, she is survived by seven great-grandchildren, Max and Patrick Iossi, Tyler Harding, Zoie and Aiden Hambrick and Jase and Callen Lee.

Sara Lee Black will be remembered as a devoted mother and wife. She was a longtime member of New Hope United Methodist Church and until her illness, worked actively in the church and voter precinct management. She was a legendary good cook and was unfailingly generous whenever her neighbors needed comfort. After Allen Lee's death, she managed a business out of her home, manufacturing safety apparel for the Savannah River Plant.

A gathering and viewing for family and friends will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at New Hope United Methodist Church, Statesboro, Ga. Following the viewing, the Reverend Jay Williams will conduct the funeral followed by burial in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.
