He was born in Chatham, the son of John Jacob and Emma Burge Ritz.
He had been a resident of Springfield for 45 years.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Shellinger [sic] of Hammond, Ind.; Mrs. Lela Blissett of Springfield and Mrs. Ruth Harbour of Chatham; two brothers, Dodd Ritz and Chester Ritz, both of Springfield.
Services were at the Staab Funeral Home.
Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

A Sangamon County corner's jury ruled the death of John J. Ritz was due to injuries accidentally received.
Mr. Ritz died instantly Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1964, when he was hit by a car.
