Wayne was a lifelong resident of Grant County and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his military service, he worked as a maintenance supervisor at RCA until his retirement. Wayne was also a volunteer fireman, past commander and current adjutant of Amvets Post 5, and member of the Van Buren Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. He was actively involved as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, as well as a member of Mizpah Shrine, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Murat Temple.
He always put others before himself, from always being on-call to help his family and friends to helping strangers who had broken down on the side of the road. There was not anything he would not do to help the people around him.
He is survived by Mary, his wife of 45 years; children, Robert Spaulding, Arizona, Bobbie Walters, Jonesboro, Cindi (Jeff) Logan, Marion, Brenda Spaulding, Washington, Robin Wellons, Anderson, Tom (Sis) Spaulding, Marion, Paul Spaulding, North Vernon, Jim Spaulding, North Vernon, and Diana (Todd) Harris, Marion; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Markie (Pete Harris) Harstine, Marion; and sister-in-law, Joan Spaulding, Marion
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Virginia Eib, Vivian Pherson, Evalyne Furnish, and Norma Ferguson; and brother, Raymond "Bud" Spaulding.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. A Masonic service will begin at 7:45 p.m.
funeral service is at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, with Pastor Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
