Gracie Mae Whitaker, age 83, of Somerset, departed this life on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at her residence.

Gracie was born on February 16, 1933 in Squib, KY, to the late Virgil and Lena Adkins. Gracie was a homemaker and a member of Clifty Grove Baptist Church. She like to crochet, garden, cook, canning, loved her grandchildren and the people who came around.

She is survived by three brothers, Shelby Lee Adkins of Squib, KY, Ras Adkins of Brownsburg, IN, and Charles Adkins of Bargersville, IN; two sisters, Sylvia Boggs of Bedford, IN, and Beulah Bullock of Fairland, IN; a son in-law, John McCarthy of Somerset; a daughter in-law, Rhonda Green; six grandchildren, John McCarthy, Andy Whitaker, Arlena Doty, Chastity McCarthy, Stacy McCarthy, Kimberly Anne McCarthy; and eight great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Whitaker, whom she married on December 20, 1952 in Somerset, and preceded her on February 6, 2010; a daughter, Linda McCarthy; a son, Jerry Whitaker; and three brothers, Sherman Adkins, Edward Adkins, and Lawrence Adkins.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 11:00am at Clifty Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Dwight Bullock officiating. Burial will be in the Whitaker Cemetery. Lake Cumberland FH in charge of arrangements.
