SARAH L. DAVIS, widow, was found dead in bed at 7 o'clock Saturday by her daughter, Gertrude, death having come to her suddenly at an early hour. The daughter, who occupied a bed in the same room, is the victim of a recent coasting accident by which her ankle was badly crushed and she has since been confined to bed.


When the daughter discovered that her mother was dead neighbors were notified and Dr. Victor D. Miller was summoned and pronounced death due to dropsy and heart failure. Mrs. Davis had been dead for some time. She had been in failing health for five weeks, but was able to be about. She retired in her usual health.


She was aged 43 years. and was born at Fountaindale, Pa. She had been a resident of Hagerstown for eight years. She was a member of St. Paul's U.B. Church and was twice married.


She is survived by the following children; Mrs. George Jones, Stella, Albert, Grant, Hilda and Gertrude.

Her first husband was Jefferson Davis married Feb 24, 1887, Waynesboro, Penna. They divorced April 27, 1897, Gettysburg, Adams, PA.

Sarah's second husband Raleigh/Rolley M. Davis (1844 to Oct. 1903)

RALEIGH M. DAVIS, of Downsville, died suddenly Saturday afternoon at the home of John Barnum, about a mile from below Williamsport from heart failure indigestion. He was aged about 60 years. Mr. Davis, who was a horseman and veteran of the Civil War, left his home to go to Chariton and was taken sick on the way and reaching Williamsport he was feeling so badly that he decided to return home. He procured medicine from Dr. W.S. Richardson and started toward home but was taken very ill and could go no further. He was taken into the house and expired in a short time. The deceased is survived by a wife and some half dozen children. Three brothers also survive as follows: Joseph and Henry Davis, Downsville; John Davis, Hagerstown.
