Mildred M. Langley, 86 of Presbyterian Manor, Kansas City, Kansas formally of Leavenworth died Monday, July 3, 2006 at The University of Kansas Hospital.
Millie as her friends knew her, Mink to her family, was born in a Wisconsin train depot on March 4, 1920. She was the first of ten children born after World War I, to Edith and Michael Laux of Bear Creek, Wisconsin. She moved to Leavenworth with her family in 1950 where she lived for most of her life. Millie lived to read, visit with anyone and everyone, teach, and encourage people. She was an advocate for the lost and downtrodden. She was faithful as a mentor, and as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She remained a committed friend to the Sister's of Charity, and to St. Mary College, where she attended as a student. She finished her working career as St. John's Hospital. Millie's favorite holiday was Christmas and seldom, until recent years, missed attending a midnight church celebration of Jesus' birthday. Her favorite place was Hawaii; she had lived there for a few years, and saw her daughter married there. She loved to listen to and watch birds; they would sit near her on her Muncie Terrace porch, as did all of her friends.
She was preceded in death by her friend and husband Ralph, and four of her five brothers. She is survived by five siblings: brother Bim, sisters' Dorothy, Deana, Hazel and Pat. Also surviving Millie is her daughter Marcia (Ray) Standiford, her son Budd (Linda) Langley, and four grandchildren: Shawna (Erine) Landy, Heidi Hedgecoke, Cappi (Tony) Criscione, and Joe Langley. Also surviving her is her great-granddaughter Jami, and great-great grandson, Cody. Her loving and faithful friends who were her extended family survive her: Katie, Laura, and Ute.
Among her favorite sayings: "This too shall pass."
She was quite a gal.
