Virginia (Deena) Allen passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020, surrounded by family.
She was born October 21, 1934 in Clintonville, WI daughter of the late Michael and Edith (Thebo) Laux. As a teenager, she moved to Leavenworth, KS where she graduated from Immaculata High School.
On July 4, 1953, she married Richard Allen. Together, they had three children: Mark, Margo and Mikki.
Deena was a devout Catholic and a long-standing member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a genuinely kind person and rarely came across a stranger who didn’t become a friend. At her house, a cup of coffee was always ready if someone wanted to stop by for a chat. Deena loved to play cards—pitch, pinochle and canasta were her favorites—and card nights frequently became the stories that would be retold for years to come. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed when they were at her house—be it the holidays, after mass on Sundays or any regular day of the week.
Deena is survived by her children: son Mark Allen (Patrice) of Fort Worth, TX; daughter Margo Adair (Bob) of Kansas City, KS; daughter Mikki Lawrence (John) of Lenexa, KS. Grandchildren: Rachel Dixon (Guy); Justin Adair (Janelle); Carey, Diego, Maria and Jack Lawrence. Great-grandchildren: Jackson, Gabriel, Annalie and Kaiya. She also leaves behind several dear nieces, nephews and friends.
Deena was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 2014. Deena was also preceded by her sisters Patricia Struchtemeyer, Dorothy Laux, Hazel Parker and Mildred Langley, as well as brothers Michael Laux, Kenneth Laux, Milton Laux and Donald Laux.
A small family service with entombment will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in Kansas City, KS. A celebration of life will be held at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Kids c/o Crossroads Hospice Charitable Foundation at 10810 E 45th Street, Suite 300 Tulsa, OK 74146.
Deena’s family would like to offer their sincere thanks and gratitude to the entire staff at Crossroads Hospice for the wonderful love and care given to Deena. Not surprising to any member of her family, but Deena counted her kind nurses among her friends.
