L.D. Monroe, 80, of Roscoe, died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at his residence.

Family visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2004 at Mc Coy Funeral Home.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Truman Davis officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Monroe was born on April 11, 1923 in Nolan and married Mary Elizabeth Martin on Aug. 16, 1947 in Champion. He was a rancher in Nolan County and in Paducah for about 1o years. Monroe was a member of Maryneal Baptist Church and was a graduate of Divide High School. He was a past member of the Highland School Board and a carpenter. Monroe was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Monroe of Roscoe; two sons, L.D. (Sonny) Monroe and wife, Patti, of Nolanville, and Dale Monroe and wife, Doris, of Roscoe; two daughters, JoAnn Henson and husband, Bill, of Sweetwater, Mary Lou Dahl and husband, Mike, of Seminole; two brothers, J.B. (Mutt) Monroe of Blackwell and R.J. (Toad) Monroe of Sweetwater; six sisters, Willie Faye Burrus of O'Donnell, Tex., Jessie Lou McReynolds of Sweetwater, Minnie Ruth Macloud of New Orleans, La., Ina LaNelle Cogdell of San Angelo, Annette LeCompte of Hitchcock, Tex., and Yvonne Lister of Blum, Tex; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Don Monroe, Robert Dale Henson, Cody Gregory, Cory Jackson, T.J. Threet, and Jimmy Johns.

Monroe was preceded in death by his sister, Birdie Eileen Rountree.
