June 8, 1921 - January 13, 2022
Our dear sweet mother has passed on and is now in heaven with Daddy. Long-time Nolan County resident, Jessie Lou Monroe McReynolds, passed away peacefully, at the age of 100, at her home Thursday, January 13, 2022.
She was born June 8, 1921 to Lorenzo Dow Monroe and Elinor Estes Monroe. She was the second to the oldest of ten children, three brothers and seven sisters. Her family called her Tean. As adults, the seven sisters and sister-in-law, Sadie Jewell, enjoyed trips all across the United States for many summers. Everyone had fun and they all loved to reminisce about these times.
Jessie Lou grew up in the Divide community. She attended Divide schools and graduated from Divide High School in 1938.
After graduation, she left the farm and moved to Sweetwater where she joined the workforce. She has been recognized and honored for her work as an aircraft mechanic at Avenger Field during World War II and the WASP program. She says these were fulfilling and enjoyable years.
In 1946, she met the love of her life, JT McReynolds, on a blind date. She said, "He was wearing the prettiest boots I ever saw." They married on December 15, 1946 and returned to the farm where they raised caged hens and sold eggs to the local markets. They had two children, Robert and Ann.
Jessie Lou was a member of the Nolan County Home Demonstration Clubs, Busy Bee 4-H club leader and longtime member of 4th and Elm church of Christ.
After JT passed away in 1974, Jessie Lou returned to the workforce installing draperies, working in retail and sewing for the public. She was a wonderful and lifelong seamstress and made all the clothing for her children.
During her work in retail, she enjoyed meeting new people. Many of you may remember her from Joe Liner's, Latria's and Bahlman's Cleaners where she worked until she retired at the age of 87. She loved quilting with her sisters, gardening, visiting her children and grandchildren, eating ice cream and Snickers, the color purple and watching TV.
She is preceded in death by her husband, JT McReynolds; her parents, LD (Lou) and Elinor Monroe; two sisters, three brothers, and her son-in-law, Al Haub.
She is survived by her son, Robert McReynolds and his wife Becky, and her daughter, Ann Haub. She is also survived by six grandchildren and their spouses, nine great-grandchildren, two great-grand sons-in-law, and two great-great-grandchildren, and caregiver Mary Castro.
Jessie Lou was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 16, 2022 at McCoy Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Graveside services will be Monday, January 17, 2022, 10:30am at Sweetwater Cemetery.
