Shirley Louise Baumgardt Gunckle, 34, died at 6 PM Monday [Nov. 24, 1969] in St. Elizabeth Hospital, where she had been a patient since Sept. 20 and ill four months. Born and reared in Lafayette, she had spent her whole life here. In 1952, she was married to Lawrence Eugene Gunckle, Jr., who survives. Mrs. Gunckle was a member of Elston Presbyterian Church.
Surviving with her husband are three sons, Lawrence "Sam" Gunckle III, Jack Gunckle, and Richard "Rick" Gunckle; three daughters, Sharon Lee Gunckle, Deborah Kay Gunckle, and Pamela Sue Gunckle, all at home; her mother, Mrs. Bessie Baumgardt of Lafayette; five sisters, Mrs. Robert Carrico of Buck Creek, Mrs. Paul Maddox of Bellmore, Mrs. Cyril Underhill, Mrs. Russell Vaughn, and Mrs. Gertrude Maxson, all of Lafayette; and two brothers, Edward Baumgardt of rural Lafayette and Ray Baumgardt of Lafayette.
