When he was 16 years of age the entire family emigrated to {ort Hadley, Australia, where they settled on a farm, the trip being made by sailing vessel. In 1850 he was married to Miss Mary Stuchberry whose family had also emigrated from England.
After a residence of eight years in Australia young Mr. Cadd and bride sailed for California, a voyage that was filled with danger and disaster, their ship being wrecked near Honolulu. They however, finally reached San Francisco from where they sailed for San Pedro and than overland to San Bernardino which has since been the family home.
