IN THE SHADOW - MRS. EMMA STUCHBERRY.

Death yesterday made another break in the ranks of the Pioneers, when Mrs. Emma Stuchberry passed away at her home. 1031 Seventh street, where she had resided for many years. It is not known at what hour she passed away, as her sister yesterday morning found her dead in bed. While owing to her advanced age she had not been in the best of health for some months, yet her condition had not been considered serious. She retired Wednesday night, as usual, her sister Mrs. Alexander, occupying an adjoining room.

Mrs. Stuchberry had been a resident of San Bernardino since 1856, when she came here from Australia with a party which including the late Thomas Cadd, who was a brother of the deceased.

Mrs. Stuchberry was born in Preston, Buckinghamshire, England, and was a daughter of John Cadd. With the balance of the family she came to California later, having a strenuous voyage, including one shipwreck off the Hawaiian Island.

She had been highly esteemed in this community in the long period she has resided here, was a leading member of the Pioneer society, where she will be greatly missed.

A large circle of relatives and friends survive the deceased, James, Thomas and Joseph, Mrs. D. H. Wixom, Brs. Ben Souther and Mrs. Thomas Harris.

The body is being cared for at the parlors of the Mark B. Shaw Undertaking company, the funeral arrangements not having yet been completed.
