X.M. "Sonny" Gilmore, 81, passed from this life Tuesday, January 5, 2016, while surrounded by his family at home.

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00pm today at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 1:00pm, Friday, January 8, 2016, in the funeral home chapel with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Sonny served during the Korean War. Sonny was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Pearl where he served as a Deacon. A Thirty-Second Degree Scottish Rite Mason, he was a faithful member of John P. Byrd Lodge No. 629 for more than fifty years where he was Past Master. Sonny was Past High Priest, Past Illustrious Master and Past Commander of the York Rite. He was a member of the Wahabi Shrine where he had served with the clown unit. He was also Past President of the Pearl Shrine Club. Sonny was a charter member of the MS Lodge of Research.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Jean; sons, Karl (Kathy) and Darryl (Melissa); sister, Joan Holmes; and grandchildren, Lindsay Rebecca, Kyle Xavier, Cari Elizabeth, Taylor Kathryn and Jonathan Darryl.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
