Doris met her knight in shining armor, Bob Alin of LaMoure, ND, at a local barn dance, while in high school. They were married on October 15, 1950 and recently celebrated 65 years of marriage, which was filled with countless blessings.
They moved from LaMoure to Fargo in 1956 when Bob started his long career with Scheels. Doris assisted in many areas of the business such as bookkeeper, toy buyer and year-end inventory from 1957 until her retirement in 1991.
Doris was a woman of strong faith and was a member of Faith United Methodist Church Fargo for 60 years. Helping with the spring and fall church rummage sale, an activity of the Faith United Methodist Women was a highlight. She had many interests. She was famous for her delicious meals and desserts. She had an extensive collection of cookbooks. She always had a good novel in hand, ready to pass on to her sister Evelyn or sister-in-law Mary Nell. She collected dolls, miniatures, and whimsical frogs. She enjoyed listening to classical music and her favorite instrument was the piano. She always, always had a coupon neatly trimmed and ready for anyone’s need. She was frugal yet extremely generous; giving humbly to many charities.
Her love for her Lord and Savior was immeasurable, as was her love for family. Doris had a loving interest in her nieces’ and nephews’ lives and was proud of her Swedish heritage. She treasured warm summer days in her beautiful backyard entertaining family and friends amongst the flower gardens and pool. Doris was an avid reader, always up on local and world events. Bob and Doris' travels took them abroad to Europe, Africa and to every State in America, but Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Carl Persson, Fred Persson, Andy Persson, Jerry Persson; five sisters, Alice Belquist, Violet Hickey, Ruth Lacina, Evelyn Martin, and Joanie Lagodinski; as well as two nephews, Mark Persson and Kim Lagodinski.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bob; her children, Cindy (Richard) Jacobs, Julie Alin, John (Tracy) Alin; four grandsons, her cherished brothers and sisters in-law, Jack and Susie Alin, Lois Peterson, Mary Nell Persson, Barb Persson and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She will be deeply missed. Interment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota.
