Joan M. Lagodinski, 74, of Edgeley, ND, died Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Joan Marie Persson was born Mother's Day, May 9, 1937 the youngest daughter of Fred and Hattie (Olson) Persson. Joanie was raised on the family farm rural Edgeley and graduated from Edgeley High in 1954.

On August 7, 1955 Joanie married her soul mate Robert Lagodinski. In their 52 years of marriage and throughout life's pursuits, their family was always the top priority. They were the proud parents of five boys. As their family grew through marriages and the births of grandchildren, they openly accepted each new addition with unconditional love. In her consistent manner, Joanie supported her family with an open heart to offer support and guidance. She had a way of making each person feel special and valued. She loved nothing more than the laughter and joy of her family. The loss of her son, Kim, weighed heavily on her heart. Never did her faith sustain her more.

Joanie loved spending time with her dear sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. She kept up with family events and occasions that cross the country and loved gathering together whenever possible.

After living in Moorhead for eleven years, Joanie and Robert returned to Edgeley to enjoy retirement. They were welcomed back to their home town by old friends and neighbors. They were lifelong members of Transfiguration Catholic Church where they had married years before. Joanie happily renewed her 50-year membership in the Country Hearts Homemakers, a source of friendships and memories that endured a lifetime. She looked forward to the annual Alumni Banquet where she took tickets for many years.

Joanie especially enjoyed practicing her faith with the weekly fellowship of Bible Study at the Lighthouse. She experienced wonderful moments of joy and laughter along with spiritual growth, comfort and strength.

In the four years since the sudden loss of her beloved Robert, Joanie faced life's trials with her signature faith, strength and courage. While her health declined, her sense of humor, gentle spirit and love of God remained strong. She left a lasting impression on each person she met with her sincerity and kindness. With the support of her family, she persevered with a conviction of heart and peace.

In her time and in her peaceful way, she said goodbye to this world fully prepared and ready for Heaven's glorious reunions.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters; loving husband Robert, beloved son, Kim.

She is survived by 4 sons, Jerry (LeAnn), Edgeley; daughter-in-law, Barb Barnick, Edgeley; Kevin (Sheila) Fargo; Jeff (Shelley), Ellendale; and Joey (Don Gibson), Oxbow. 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
