Daughter of Hollis Hydes Dies in California
Evelyn Hyde, daughter of Hollis and Nellie Hyde was born near Memphis, Missouri, February 27, 1931 and passed away in San Bruno, California on January 5, 1964. She was graduated from the Memphis High School with the class of '49 and went to California in the fall of 1949. She was employed by Eitel and McCullough at San Carlos, California. Evelyn was united in marriage to W. A. Gatlin July 21, 1957. To this union was born a daughter, Robin Denise who is 4 1/2 years of age. She is survived by her husband and daughter, her mother and father, seven sisters and four brothers: Charles Leland, Nelda and Barbara Hyde and Mrs. Mary Drummond of Memphis; Mrs. Carol Bundy and Delbert Hyde of Independence, Misouri; Mrs. Virginia Bertram of Gorin, Missouri; Mrs. Ruth Moore of Keokuk, Iowa; Phillip Hyde with U. S. Army in Germany; and Mrs. Genevieve Ridge of Marina, California; four nephews, four nieces, aunts, uncles, and other relatives. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services were held from the Payne Chapel Sunday, January 12, at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Frederick Lawson. Burial was in the Brock Cemetery. Body bearers were Byron Drummond, Ray Drummond, Oscar Mankopf, Junior Hyde, Stanley Bull, and Franklin Reed.

“Mrs. Gatlin dies suddenly in California
MEMPHIS, MO. -- Mrs. Evelyn Gatlin, 32 was found dead early Sunday morning at her home in San Bruno, Calif. She had had a fall before retiring and it is thought her death was a result of this. Daughter of Hillis and Nellie Smith Hyde she was born February 27, 2931 in Scotland county. She graduated from the Memphis High school and was a member of the Brock Methodist church. She had lived in California for several years. Surviving are her husband, William Gatlin, one four year old daughter, Robin, her parents of Memphis, four brothers and seven sisters. The body will arrive at Ottumwa Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and will be brought to the Payne Funeral Home in Memphis. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday with burial in the Brock cemetery.”
